Joe Rogan Urges Sean Sharaf to Consider Retirement After Major UFC 331 Upset

Joe Rogan advised heavyweight Sean Sharaf to think about retiring after his surprising UFC 331 win.
Sean Sharaf achieved one of the biggest upsets in UFC history last month at UFC 331. Just seconds into his bout against Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson, Sharaf knocked out the highly-touted prospect, handing Steveson his first professional MMA loss.
The outcome was unexpected, as Steveson, who debuted in the UFC earlier this year at UFC 329, entered UFC 331 as a strong betting favorite. Sharaf, meanwhile, had a 0-2 record in the Octagon before this fight.
Sharaf, a former U.S. Marine, is experiencing newfound attention following UFC 331. However, he has indicated that he has considered ending his fighting career after the Steveson fight, stating he doesn't have championship ambitions.
During an appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience, Rogan shared his thoughts on Sharaf's future.
Joe Rogan and Sean Sharaf Discuss Potential Retirement Following UFC 331 Victory
Rogan addressed Sharaf's contemplation of retirement after his career-defining win at UFC 331.
“If that's the case (and you're considering retiring), then definitely go and take mushrooms with your dog because the decision will always be entirely yours because it depends entirely on who you are and where you are,” Rogan told Sharaf.
“There’s nothing wrong with you walking away right now if you want to do that, so you have to think about it. And I think a moment like that is so big that you have to let it settle before you decide.”
Before joining the UFC in 2024, Sharaf won his first three professional fights by first-round knockout. Despite his significant achievement at UFC 331, Sharaf appears open to concluding his MMA career, and Rogan seems to support that possibility.
