Aljamain Sterling Agrees to Striking Match Against Kevin Vallejos for UFC Qatar
Former UFC bantamweight champion Aljamain Sterling appears ready to set aside his grappling expertise for a striking-focused fight at UFC Qatar later this year.
The UFC's return to Qatar is headlined by a light heavyweight bout between former champion Jiri Prochazka and Navajo Stirling, vying for a potential title shot amid Carlos Ulberg's absence.
Beyond the main event, UFC Qatar's undercard includes a featherweight matchup featuring Aljamain Sterling against Kevin Vallejos, both aiming for a significant ranking boost.
As Sterling prepares to face Vallejos, the latter proposed an all-striking contest.
Vallejos and Sterling Eye a Striking Showdown at UFC Qatar
Following the UFC Qatar card announcement, Vallejos expressed his vision for the Sterling fight on Twitter.
"I think my fight with Sterling will be pure striking," Vallejos tweeted. "ALL the fans win with this one. Legend vs. Prospect. All-out striking war in a full arena."
Sterling quickly responded, stating, "Can’t wait!"
An all-striking approach from Sterling against Vallejos could prove risky. Vallejos has recently defeated Josh Emmett, Giga Chikadze, and Seung-Woo Choi.
Sterling, after a close loss to Movsar Evloev, secured wins over Youssef Zalal and Brian Ortega. He transitioned to featherweight full-time following his loss to Sean O’Malley at UFC 292.
While Prochazka vs. Stirling headlines UFC Qatar, the Sterling vs. Vallejos bout could potentially steal the show, especially if the featherweights commit to a stand-up battle.
