Pokémon is commemorating its 30th anniversary throughout 2026, marking the original Japanese release of the Red and Green versions. In celebration, The Pokémon Company has unveiled a collaboration with the brand Uniqlo. This collection features t-shirts with designs inspired by the monochrome ‘sprites’ from the first-generation Game Boy editions. These designs are based on the Pokémon from Red/Green, not the revised sprites found in the Japanese Blue version (which served as the basis for the international Red/Blue releases) or the sprites from Yellow.
The initial Uniqlo collection showcases Pokémon designs rendered in the watercolor style of Ken Sugimori, with t-shirts available for both children and adults. A second collection focuses on the original Game Boy’s monochrome sprites, presenting pixelated recreations with color isolated. This second line is slated for release in late July and will initially be available only in Uniqlo stores in Japan.
Each Pokémon x Uniqlo t-shirt is priced at 1990 yen, approximately $12.64 USD, which converts to around 50,000 Colombian pesos, excluding shipping and taxes.
Beyond designs featuring eight Pokémon sprites and Kanto gym leader badges, one t-shirt displays the international version of the Pokémon Red start screen. Another t-shirt highlights Mewtwo (Pokémon #150) on the front, with the mythical Mew (Pokémon #151) on the back.
In contrast to the t-shirts with white backgrounds, a black t-shirt is dedicated to the brand’s iconic Pokémon, Pikachu. This design subtly hints at its future evolution, revealing Raichu.
Additionally, there are t-shirts with full-color designs, featuring the original artwork.
