Xbox has officially confirmed the delay of the highly anticipated Fable reboot. Initially postponed from February 2025 to later this year, the game’s release has now been rescheduled for February 2027. This new delay was revealed on a podcast leading up to the June Xbox Games Showcase, altering the original plans that had the new Fable set for a Q4 2026 launch. Microsoft stated that this adjustment aims to give the game its own dedicated space in the market.
Why Was the New Fable Delayed Again?
The primary reason for this decision is the crowded release schedule Xbox has planned for 2026. Matt Booty, Head of Xbox Content, explained that Fable‘s development is progressing well. However, with the upcoming release of major industry titles like Grand Theft Auto 6, the division opted to postpone Fable. Xbox prefers to avoid overwhelming the market, allowing each of its 2026 releases to have its moment. Consequently, the latter part of 2026 will be reserved for other titles, including notable games like Halo: Campaign Evolved, Minecraft Dungeons 2, Gears of War: E-Day, and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.
Despite the change in the new Fable‘s release date, Xbox assured fans that they won’t have to wait long for more details about the RPG. Microsoft confirmed that the planned Fable presentation during the upcoming Xbox Games Showcase will proceed as scheduled.
