UFC Official Denies Topuria's Glove Tampering Claims Against Gaethje
An official involved in regulating UFC Freedom 250 dismissed Ilia Topuria's allegations that Justin Gaethje cheated during their fight. Topuria claimed Gaethje's gloves contained something unusual in a social media post shortly after their UFC Freedom 250 bout, which Gaethje won via TKO. This loss marked the first of Topuria's career.
Topuria appears to be seeking an immediate rematch with Gaethje. Meanwhile, top lightweight contenders Arman Tsarukyan and Mauricio Ruffy are set to compete at UFC 331.
Gaethje has publicly denied Topuria's accusations. There is currently no evidence to support the claims of foul play by Gaethje or his team at UFC Freedom 250.
While UFC executives, including Dana White, have not commented on the matter, a top commission regulator addressed Topuria's claims in a recent interview.
Gaethje's Gloves Were 'Totally Fine,' Says Official
Andy Foster, executive officer for the California State Athletic Commission, told USA Today Sports regarding Topuria's allegations: "His gloves and wraps were fine and totally within regulations. Also well inspected by multiple inspectors."
Gaethje is expected to attend UFC 331. Topuria has been medically cleared to fight again, keeping a potential rematch between him and Gaethje on the table amidst escalating tensions.
