Daniel Cormier's Skepticism Regarding Usman Nurmagomedov's Dominance in UFC
Daniel Cormier acknowledges the significant potential of undefeated fighter Usman Nurmagomedov but expresses reservations about the sweeping claims made by his manager, Ali Abdelaziz. Abdelaziz has asserted that Nurmagomedov would easily defeat top UFC lightweights like Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway. Cormier, however, finds this assertion hard to believe.
Cormier stated on his YouTube channel that while he believes Nurmagomedov is a special talent with championship-level experience, the level of competition in the UFC is considerably higher. He argued that predicting complete domination over established fighters like Max Holloway, Ilia Topuria, Paddy Pimblett, and Charles Oliveira is unrealistic.
"Easier said than done," Cormier remarked. "I train with the guy, I really care about the guy, but to go out there and be really far left about who those guys are, because I know who Max Holloway is, I know who Ilia Topuria is, I know who Paddy Pimblett is, I know who Charles Oliveira is. I know who they are as fighters. To think they would just be completely dominated and outclassed is just absolutely crazy, and I will tell Ali that to his face."
Max Holloway himself responded to Abdelaziz's comments during a live stream, using an expletive to dismiss the manager's understanding of fighting.
Chael Sonnen, a UFC Hall of Famer, also shared his doubts about Nurmagomedov's ability to dominate elite UFC lightweights in a separate YouTube video, echoing Cormier's skepticism.
Daniel Cormier expresses doubt over manager's bold predictions for Usman Nurmagomedov in the UFC.
Daniel Cormier has shared his thoughts on the recent bold statements made by Ali Abdelaziz, the manager of highly-touted fighter Usman Nurmagomedov. Abdelaziz has confidently claimed that Nurmagomedov would easily defeat top contenders in the UFC lightweight division, such as Ilia Topuria and Max Holloway.
However, Cormier, a former two-division UFC champion, believes that such predictions are premature and perhaps overly optimistic. While acknowledging Nurmagomedov's talent and potential, Cormier emphasized the formidable skill and experience of UFC's elite lightweight fighters. He articulated his reservations on his YouTube channel, suggesting that Abdelaziz's claims might be "easier said than done."
"I think Usman Nurmagomedov is special... I know he has championship level experience... The UFC guys are just better," Cormier stated. He further elaborated on his knowledge of the UFC's top lightweights, asserting that the idea of them being completely outclassed is "absolutely crazy" and something he would express directly to Abdelaziz.
The sentiment of skepticism is shared by others. Max Holloway, a former UFC featherweight champion, has also reacted to Abdelaziz's remarks, indicating his disbelief. Additionally, UFC Hall of Famer Chael Sonnen has publicly questioned the extent of Nurmagomedov's potential dominance against the UFC's best 155-pounders.
