"Fighting for This Title": Filipe Luis Reveals Monaco's Conference League Ambitions
AS Monaco, currently the surprise leader of Ligue 1 after five matches, aims to make a significant impact in the Europa Conference League this season. Speaking on RMC's "After Foot" program on Wednesday, head coach Filipe Luis openly discussed the team's aspirations in the competition.
Monaco has had an exceptional start. Filipe Luis, who joined AS Monaco this summer after winning the Brazilian championship and Copa Libertadores with Flamengo, has already made his mark. Under his guidance, the club from the Rock currently sits at the top of Ligue 1, ahead of their home match against Toulouse on Saturday for the sixth round of fixtures.
The team also successfully navigated the Europa Conference League play-offs to reach the league phase. This competition is a genuine objective for the club, as Filipe Luis confirmed in an exclusive interview with RMC's "After Foot" on Wednesday.
'A Truly Wonderful Trophy'
"There are many strong teams involved. We have Brighton, who are third in the Premier League. We can mention Freiburg, who reached the (Europa League) final last season. There are several significant clubs. But you're right, we have a real opportunity: to fight for this title. Yes, I agree with you," stated the Brazilian tactician.
"Whether we must win is another question; becoming champions is extremely difficult. We need to demonstrate that we deserve this trophy, which is a truly wonderful prize. But this represents a great chance for us to achieve something significant this season. I, at least personally, take this competition very seriously. I hope my players will follow suit," the 41-year-old coach emphasized.
During the league phase, from October 15th to December 17th, Monaco will face CSKA Sofia, Freiburg, Nordsjaelland, Heart of Midlothian, Brighton, and Lincoln Red Imps, a club from Gibraltar.
On a quelques gros clubs.
