Tom Aspinall Explains Decision to Sign with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Talent

Tom Aspinall has elaborated on his decision to sign with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Talent Agency, a move that drew attention given Hearn's ongoing public dispute with UFC President Dana White.

Despite widespread discussions surrounding his interim title reign and the wait for a unification bout, the British fighter remains the UFC heavyweight champion. He is closely monitoring the outcome of the upcoming Alex Pereira vs. Ciryl Gane clash, which is expected to determine his next opponent. During his period away from active competition, Aspinall has navigated various opinions from fans and fellow fighters regarding his position as interim champion.

In his time on the sidelines, Tom Aspinall recognized a shift in public sentiment and has now prioritized his own career advancement over solely appeasing the masses. With a renewed focus on maximizing his remaining years in combat sports and boosting his business endeavors outside of fighting, Aspinall transitioned from being solely represented by his father to partnering with Matchroom Talent Agency.

The timing of this collaboration surprised many, considering Hearn's escalating tensions with Dana White. However, Aspinall believes now is the opportune moment for professional representation and explained precisely why he chose the renowned boxing promoter.

"We've probably met almost every single MMA representation person out there, whether they're a manager, commercial advisor, or whatever you want to call someone who represents athletes," Aspinall stated. "We've had meetings, had meals, coffee, phone calls, everything. But honestly, there's just something about Eddie, and something about Frank and the entire team; sometimes when you genuinely look across from somebody and spend real time with them, you just get a good feeling. And those are definitely my kind of people."

He continued, "I just felt an instant connection, like we were on the same wavelength immediately. The trust was there right away. I can't quite explain it; I'm sure you've experienced it before. Sometimes in life, you meet people, and you just click, and I felt like we all clicked, and it simply works."

After achieving championship success inside the octagon, Tom Aspinall's focus has shifted away from solely chasing a legacy. Instead, he is now concentrated on making as much money as possible as he navigates the latter stages of his career.

Aspinall views Eddie Hearn as the perfect partner to advise him on business decisions and help turn that ambition into a reality.

"I'm very happy with everything," Aspinall added. "Very happy to be part of Matchroom. Very happy to be working with Eddie, working with Frank, working with the rest of the team. This was simply about expanding my team, particularly in terms of media and commercial value and related aspects. We've always had a really, really small team, and I wanted to broaden and grow that. I believe Eddie and the guys at Matchroom are the right people to do that with."

"So, Eddie and Matchroom, they function as commercial advisors for me. That's the role they're going to play; they will provide advice. My dad is still my manager; he has been my manager from the beginning and will continue to be until the end. But, if we need to involve Eddie, we absolutely will... Some UFC fighters don't even care if they win or lose. They just want to fight and are content with getting paid for it. And that's great; if you're cut from that cloth, good for you. But for me, I want to make as much money as I possibly can, so I'm exploring every available option."
