Preview Kendrick Nunn to Play for Qatar in the 2027 World Cup?

The possibility of Kendrick Nunn participating in the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup has emerged. While a spot on Team USA appears highly unlikely, the 2025 Euroleague MVP could potentially represent another nation. After reportedly being courted by Turkey and Greece, sources from Sport24 indicate that Nunn is expected to join the Qatari national team, the host country for the tournament.

To secure his commitment, the Qatari basketball federation is reportedly prepared to offer the point guard $10 million, as reported by SDNA. This strategy of naturalizing players is a familiar one for Qatar, notably seen when they hosted the 2015 World Men’s Handball Championship. With a roster heavily featuring naturalized athletes, the handball team reached the final, ultimately losing to France with a score of 22-25.

By acquiring one of the top players in the Euroleague, who has continued to perform exceptionally this season with averages of 18.3 points and 3.5 assists in the competition, the Qatar Basketball Federation hopes to emulate the success of their handball counterparts.
