Sentenced to Be a Hero: Second Season and Video Game Announced at AnimeJapan 2026
As the first day of AnimeJapan 2026 continued, the panel for Sentenced to Be a Hero brought forth exciting news. During the event, the production team behind the anime adaptation of the light novel series Yūsha-kei ni Shosu: Chōbatsu Yūsha 9004-tai Keimu Kiroku confirmed that a second season is already in production. Alongside this announcement, Kadokawa released a promotional video and an illustration for the upcoming episodes.
Second Season and Video Game Revealed for Sentenced to Be a Hero
In addition to the second season, the franchise will expand its universe with the launch of a video game titled Sentenced to Be a Hero -Game of the GODDESS- (known in Japanese as Yūsha-kei ni Shosu -Game of the GODDESS-). This project is being developed by VIC GAME STUDIOS, with Kadokawa serving as publisher. A brief teaser for the game was showcased at AnimeJapan 2026, though Kadokawa has not yet specified the platforms on which it will be released.
Exploring the Story of Sentenced to Be a Hero
The story of Sentenced to Be a Hero follows Xylo Forbartz, a decorated former knight falsely accused of murdering the goddess Senerva. Following this event, Xylo is forced to lead a combat unit comprised of society's most marginalized members. The narrative intensifies when, under pressure from the Demon Lord, Awd Goggie, and facing resource scarcity, Xylo is compelled to form a pact with Teoritta, a goddess who functions as a living weapon.
Their relationship is purely transactional, reflecting a world where deities are viewed as mere tools of war, devoid of reverence. As the story unfolds, it is revealed that Xylo's downfall and Senerva's death are part of an intricate web of institutional corruption and complex power struggles that will be uncovered throughout the season.
The first season of the anime premiered in Japan on January 3, 2026, beginning with a special 60-minute episode. Hiroyuki Takashima directed the series at Studio KAI, with Kenta Ihara overseeing the scripts and Takeshi Noda handling character designs. Shunsuke Takizawa composed the music, and the band SPYAIR performed the main theme, "Kill the Noise."
