Japanese studio Game Freak has finally released their most ambitious title outside the Pokémon franchise, Beast of Reincarnation. However, the reception hasn't been stellar. While most reviews have been generally positive, with OpenCritic showing an average score of 7.6/10, significant criticism has been leveled at certain aspects, particularly concerning optimization, accessibility, and narrative pacing.

Less than 24 hours after its launch, Game Freak has responded to this feedback. In a social media post, the studio thanked players for giving their game a chance and announced that an update is scheduled for release within the next week that aims to resolve many of the identified issues.

According to the announcement, the upcoming patch will include the following changes:

  • Camera adjustments
  • Increased text size
  • Improvements to story pacing
  • The default graphics option will be set to ‘Performance’ instead of ‘Cinematic’
  • Various other bug fixes

Of these changes, the "improvements to story pacing" is particularly intriguing. One of the main criticisms of Beast of Reincarnation is the slow development of its narrative, which is then abruptly resolved with a large influx of dialogue at the end. While this cannot be easily fixed, the developers might address the odd pauses in dialogue scenes that significantly slow down the experience.

Beast of Reincarnation is not a bad game, but it's certainly not a masterpiece. Nevertheless, it is hoped that these improvements will enhance the player experience and help the game find its intended audience.

Beast of Reincarnation is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
