EA Lays Off Battlefield 6 Developers Despite Game's Success

In 2025, Battlefield 6 made a significant impact on the industry. It not only surpassed its main competitor, Call of Duty, in sales and critical acclaim but also became one of the year's top-selling games. While the game's prestige has slightly diminished due to the handling of its "live service" elements, its overall success remains undeniable. According to a report by Rebekah Valentine at IGN, EA has implemented an undisclosed number of layoffs across Criterion, DICE, Ripple Effect, and Motive Studios. All these studios were integral parts of the Battlefield Studios team responsible for the acclaimed war game's development.

The report clarifies that none of the affected studios will be shut down; they are expected to continue providing support and managing new seasons for the game. Electronic Arts' official justification for these layoffs among Battlefield Studios members is described as a "team realignment."

Although an official statement from EA is still pending, the prevailing theory suggests these actions are primarily a cost-cutting measure. As widely reported, the company was recently acquired by a consortium that includes the Saudi Arabian investment fund. This acquisition deal reportedly left EA with a substantial debt, and it is likely seeking ways to ensure repayment by reducing expenses wherever possible.
