Despite efforts by platforms like GOG and organizations such as The Video Game History Foundation to preserve classic games, accessing many older titles is becoming increasingly difficult. For instance, just as this is being written, it was announced that Disney has removed access to over a dozen of its games from Steam. Fortunately, some companies continue to release collections and re-release games that many consider forgotten, breathing new life into them. This is the case with Games Workshop and SNEG, who have just launched the Warhammer Classics collection on Steam, featuring around twenty titles: some appearing for the first time and others that had been removed but are now back.
According to SNEG’s statement, they undertook this initiative because “original Warhammer games are important and deserve to be preserved, celebrated, and rereleased to the global PC audience.” They emphasize that the Warhammer Classics line was created to safeguard the legacy of these titles for future generations in a landscape where an increasing number of games are lost due to a lack of conservation and obsolete hardware.
