Paul Elliott's Prized Pastime: A Lifelong Love for Animals
Paul Elliott, a formidable heavyweight MMA contender, finds his greatest joy not in the fight arena, but among his beloved animals. While preparing to headline ONE Fight Night 48 in Bangkok against Shamil Erdogan, Elliott, 34, reflects on a childhood in Middlesbrough, England, where animals, particularly dogs, took precedence.
His mother's dedication to animal rescue meant their home was often a haven for dogs others wouldn't adopt. This early exposure cemented Elliott's affection for all creatures. "I'm definitely a dog fan," Elliott stated. "But the thing is, I'm not just a dog guy. I genuinely like all animals." He recounts how cats were a presence in his youth, followed by the family's first dog during his teenage years, leading to an ever-growing pack.
As Elliott moved out, he humorously observed that his parents seemed to "replace us with dogs." At its peak, the family home housed five dogs and two cats, with goldfish also making appearances. Current companions Millie, Ava, and Bella follow in the paw prints of earlier pets like Gracie, Brooke, Asher, and Casper.
A nearby beach served as a regular outlet for the dogs' energy. Elliott recalled his twenties when the household was at its most crowded. "We had five dogs and two cats. It was a bit of a zoo experience at my parents’ house," he said. Despite the lively atmosphere, he noted it wasn't overwhelming, as the animals had their own spaces downstairs.
