After weeks, or perhaps months, of persistent rumors, Capcom has officially confirmed that a remake of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica is in development. The highly anticipated remake of the classic title was revealed at the start of Summer Game Fest 2026. Following a period of silence regarding the rumors, the Japanese developer finally unveiled one of the most eagerly awaited remakes by fans of the franchise.
What is the Name of the Resident Evil Code: Veronica Remake?
The new version of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica, a cult classic that originally debuted on SEGA’s Dreamcast console in February 2000, will be officially titled simply Resident Evil Veronica, with its release scheduled for 2027.
The announcement of Resident Evil Veronica reinforces Capcom’s recent strategy of alternating releases between remakes and new installments in the saga. This reveal comes just months after the successful launch of Requiem, which has become one of the year’s most successful titles. The arrival of this remake addresses a long-standing demand from the community, as the original 2000 title had been absent from the franchise’s updated library. Fans had expected its remake after Resident Evil 3 in 2020, but Capcom instead opted for Resident Evil Village in 2021, Resident Evil 4 in 2023, and Requiem this year.
The original story of Resident Evil – Code: Veronica followed the Redfield siblings, Chris and Claire, on a mission set several months after the Raccoon City disaster. Although its gameplay mechanics have aged considerably, the game became a cult classic due to its compelling story, gothic atmosphere, and the introduction of the memorable Ashcroft twins as the primary antagonists.
