Even though the 30th anniversary of Capcom’s zombie saga has passed, significant celebrations have been scarce. However, a wave of new merchandise has emerged, including an unexpected crossover: Resident Evil has teamed up with the ‘kawaii metal’ band Babymetal.

Babymetal, formed in 2010 by Suzuka ‘Su-metal’ Nakamoto, Moa Kikuchi, and Momoko Okazaki, uniquely blends heavy metal with idol music. Despite initial skepticism from some in the rock community, the band has achieved global popularity and received praise from artists like Rob Zombie and Tom Morello.

While not typically associated with horror gaming, this intriguing collaboration features Resident Evil-themed merchandise for Babymetal, including t-shirts, hoodies, decorations, and keychains.

The collaboration reimagines Babymetal members alongside Alcina Dimitrescu from Resident Evil Village, replacing her daughters. Pre-orders for these items are available until June 26th on babymetal.store (for the US) and babymetalstoreuk.com (for the UK). International shipping to countries like Colombia, Mexico, and Spain might be possible from these sites, though this has not been confirmed.

The band members themselves have shown appreciation for the merchandise in a video posted on their official Instagram account.

Interestingly, this isn’t Babymetal’s first foray into gaming collaborations; a decade ago, they made a special appearance in Super Mario Maker.

While this collaboration is seen as fun and the artwork is impressive, many are still eagerly awaiting more substantial and innovative ways Resident Evil will commemorate its 30th anniversary.
