Federico Dimarco reportedly reached out to his former Inter Milan teammate Edin Dzeko on Friday. This communication followed the widespread circulation of a video on social media, depicting Italian players celebrating Bosnia’s victory against Wales.
The video, which quickly gained traction, showed Dimarco along with several other Italian national team members reacting enthusiastically to Bosnia and Herzegovina’s penalty shootout triumph over Wales on Thursday. The rapid spread of the footage on social media caused considerable upset among a segment of Bosnian supporters.
While the FIGC (Italian Football Federation) reportedly considers the incident to have been overblown, Dimarco nevertheless contacted Bosnia’s captain, Dzeko, to clarify his actions and the team’s intentions.

Their exchange, conducted via WhatsApp, was described as friendly. During this conversation, the Inter Milan defender explained the intentions behind the Azzurri’s celebration to the former Nerazzurri star.
Dimarco and Dzeko shared a locker room at Inter for two seasons, from 2021 to 2023, during which they jointly secured two Coppa Italia titles and two Supercoppa Italiana trophies.

Looking ahead, Italy and Bosnia and Herzegovina are scheduled to face each other in the World Cup play-off Final on Tuesday, March 31, in Zenica.
