Preview Ghost in the Shell: Science Saru Reveals New Anime Premiere Date

Science Saru has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming anime adaptation of Masamune Shirow’s iconic manga, The Ghost in the Shell (Kōkaku Kidōtai), during the first day of AnimeJapan 2026. The Japanese studio, known for its work on Sanda and Dan Da Dan, also showcased the main visual art and confirmed weekly broadcast details.

When Will the New The Ghost in the Shell Anime Premiere?

The new The Ghost in the Shell trailer confirms that the highly anticipated anime is set to debut in July 2026. It will be broadcast weekly in Japan through “Ka-Anival!!”, a new anime programming block resulting from a collaboration between Kansai TV and Fuji TV, every Tuesday night.

Directing this new series will be Mokochan, marking their directorial debut after serving as an assistant director on productions such as Dan Da Dan and Scott Pilgrim Takes Off. The screenplay has been developed by Toh En Joe, while Shuhei Handa is responsible for character design and chief animation direction.

The nearly minute-long preview offers a glimpse at conceptual designs for various settings and key characters like Batou and Daisuke Aramaki, the leader of Section 9. Masamune Shirow, the creator of the original manga, shared his thoughts on this new production:

“This is the fourth anime adaptation of Ghost in the Shell, following those by Oshii, Kamiyama, and Kise. It could even be considered the tenth version if we include Ghost in the Shell (1995), Innocence, the two seasons of Stand Alone Complex, Solid State Society, the Arise series, the new movie, and the two seasons of SAC_2045.

Given the change in the production team, it could be said that this is the first work of a second generation. The original manga is quite old, so I ask for your understanding (and my apologies). I sincerely hope you enjoy this high-quality visual work.”
