Following the reveal of Kenshiro as the latest addition to Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Season 2 in late March, the identity of the fifth character remained a subject of speculation. This mystery was officially resolved during the Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves Top 8 at EVO Japan 2026. SNK has now confirmed that Mr. Karate will be the fifth character joining the game later this month.
Who is Mr. Karate and Why This Version’s Masked Persona is Not Who Many Expected?
Historically, the Mr. Karate persona was associated with Takuma Sakazaki, who adopted this title to protect his family’s honor while working for Geese Howard. His son, Ryo, later took on the mantle as Mr. Karate II, with his last appearance under this name being in Buriki One. However, in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, the role of Mr. Karate has been assumed by Robert Garcia, Ryo’s long-time rival and best friend. Although Robert appears simply as “Mr. Karate” in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves, his design clearly signifies the passage of time, featuring greying hair and the classic elegant attire synonymous with Robert Garcia.
So Who is Mr. Karate in Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves?
Robert Garcia, another prominent character from the Art of Fighting series (whose events precede Fatal Fury), is the new Mr. Karate in the SNK universe. His inclusion not only adds an interesting layer to the Kyokugenryu chronology but also fuels rumors. Whispers suggest that SNK is developing a new Art of Fighting game, making Robert Garcia’s portrayal as Mr. Karate potentially the Japanese developer’s initial step towards introducing their new title.
