Slovenia will be without its star player this summer. Following his NBA team’s elimination from the playoffs, Luka Doncic has decided to opt out of the upcoming international fixtures. He announced this decision via an Instagram story, explaining that it’s to allow him more time with his daughters.
“I love my daughters more than anything, and they will always be my priority. As I continue to try to obtain shared custody, I was forced to make a difficult decision between playing for the national team or seeing my daughters this summer. Unfortunately, it has been very difficult for me to see them these past eight months.”
“I have always given my all to represent Slovenia and am disappointed that I cannot play for my country this summer. But right now, my daughters and my responsibilities as a father are my priority.”
However, Doncic’s absence may not significantly impact Slovenia’s chances. The team is already close to securing a spot in the second round of World Cup qualifiers, needing just one more win. They have upcoming matches against Estonia and Sweden.
