Preview Jamal Mashburn in Talks with AS Monaco for Investment

Jamal Mashburn, a 53-year-old former NBA player who enjoyed a 12-season career averaging 19.1 points per game and earning an All-Star selection, is reportedly in negotiations to become an investor in the AS Monaco basketball club.

Following his successful basketball career, Mashburn transitioned into business, making significant investments in various ventures. These include automotive dealerships, particularly Toyota franchises, restaurant chains such as Papa John’s and Dunkin’ Donuts, and real estate developments.

Mashburn was previously involved in a consortium with Rick Pitino, who was then the coach of the Greek national team, and Stu Jackson, a former NBA Vice President. This group acquired the French club Pau-Lacq-Orthez in 2021. However, Mashburn reportedly withdrew his involvement relatively quickly as the project faced difficulties.

Recent reports indicate that the American businessman met with Euroleague officials during his time in Athens. He was also observed in the company of Oleksiy Yefimov, the General Manager of AS Monaco.

According to Nice Matin, “Based on our information, Mashburn could join ASM in a strategic advisory role, with the possibility of becoming even more broadly involved in the club’s long-term development project.”
