Venezia Backs Coach Stroppa Despite Poor Start
Reports from Italy suggest Venezia will retain Giovanni Stroppa as head coach. This decision comes despite the team being the sole Serie A club without any points after the first five games of the 2026-27 season.
Venezia Sticks with Stroppa After Winless Opening
Venezia has lost to Lecce, Milan, Frosinone, Fiorentina, and Lazio in Serie A. A 2-1 Coppa Italia defeat against Udinese in the round of 32 had put promotion-winning coach Stroppa's position at risk.
However, Sky Sport Italia reported on Tuesday evening that Venezia is showing confidence in Stroppa. He led the team to the Serie B title last season with 82 points.
Venezia's decision-makers reportedly reviewed the situation over recent days, following a 2-0 loss to Lazio. They concluded that Stroppa warrants more time to establish himself in Serie A.
Stroppa's next matches are away against Atalanta on October 12, followed by a fixture against Napoli on October 17.
Two Serie A coaches have already been dismissed early in the season. Fabio Grosso was fired by Fiorentina after three consecutive losses. Bologna recently parted ways with Domenico Tedesco, who managed only one point from his initial four league games.
