Preview Dybala’s Mother-in-Law Reveals Boca Juniors Promise, But Roma Remains ‘First Choice’

Paulo Dybala’s mother-in-law has shed light on a significant promise the forward made, which could see him join Boca Juniors this summer. Despite this pledge, she indicated that “Roma would be his first choice” if a contract extension can be secured.

As Dybala is set to become a free agent on July 1st unless Roma successfully offers him a new deal, current indications suggest an agreement is increasingly unlikely. This scenario has fueled speculation in Argentina, with many confident that his next club will be Boca Juniors.

Catherine Fulop, Dybala’s mother-in-law, provided further insight into why a move to Boca Juniors is considered a logical step in his career. She shared that the thought of playing for Boca Juniors was a dream instilled in Dybala by his late father.

“He loves Roma, he loves the team, and I also think Roma love him very much too. That would be his first choice, staying there,” Fulop told Urbana Play, as reported by TyC Sports. “Paulo made a promise to his father that one day he would wear the Boca Juniors jersey. That would be a dream instilled in him by his Dad, and he wants to fulfil that dream.”

With Dybala and his wife, Oriana Sabatini, recently becoming parents to their daughter Gia, a return to Argentina to be closer to family would offer another compelling reason for a move.

“I’m happy if they are coming to Buenos Aires, of course,” Fulop added.

However, a potential move to Boca Juniors presents a familial complication, as Fulop’s husband and Oriana’s father, is a staunch supporter of Boca’s fierce rivals, River Plate.

“Yes, that’s bad. Ova doesn’t miss a single River match…” she admitted.

Now 32, Dybala departed Argentina at a young age to join Palermo in Italy in 2012. He then transferred to Juventus in 2015 before arriving at Roma as a free agent in 2022. The only club he represented in his homeland before moving abroad was Instituto Atlético Central Córdoba.
