Como is reportedly considering a summer transfer move for Juventus player Andrea Cambiaso. This interest stems from Cesc Fabregas’s side needing to integrate more homegrown Italian talent to meet UEFA’s squad list regulations for European competitions.
Having secured a guaranteed finish no lower than sixth in Serie A this season, Como will participate in European football in the 2026-27 campaign. The exact competition—Champions League, Europa League, or Conference League—is yet to be determined.
Ahead of their inaugural European season, Como is expected to recruit additional Italian players to comply with UEFA’s requirements. These rules mandate that at least eight of the 25 players on a team’s ‘A’ list must be locally trained. Currently, Como has featured very few Italian players, with their most prominent homegrown talent, Edoardo Goldaniga (32), having played only 104 minutes this season.
Como’s president, Mirwan Suwarso, has acknowledged the club’s desire to sign more Italian players, stating, “We are always looking for more Italians. We bought four in our first Serie A season.” He also noted the high cost of Italian players and the club’s financial limitations, adding, “The problem is that they are expensive and we can’t pay them in instalments.” He mentioned developing Italian prospects and expressed admiration for players like Orsolini, Bastoni, Dimarco, and Cambiaghi, as well as Lazio’s Pellegrini, though affordability remains a challenge.
Could Como Secure Cambiaso from Juventus?
According to reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport, Como is interested in signing Juventus’s Andrea Cambiaso. However, this transfer is anticipated to be challenging.
Como values Cambiaso’s versatility, as he can play effectively at full-back and wing-back positions. They see him as an experienced option in both Serie A and the Champions League, despite his relatively young age of 26.
Despite Cambiaso being a regular starter for Juventus under coach Luciano Spalletti, his potential departure is not currently part of Spalletti’s plans for the next season, as reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport. Como, however, hopes for a divergence in opinion between the coach and the club’s management.
Juventus is expected to be active in the transfer market this summer to build a squad capable of challenging for the Scudetto in 2026-27. This could necessitate the sale of some current players to fund new acquisitions. La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that few players, with the possible exception of Kenan Yildiz, are considered “untransferable” at Juventus if a suitable offer is made. A sale would also be more likely if Juventus fails to qualify for the Champions League next season.
Cambiaso is not the only Italian player on Como’s radar. Reports also indicate that Cambiaghi is a potential target, with a valuation around €15 million. La Gazzetta dello Sport suggests that Como would need to offer double that amount for Cambiaso.
