AC Milan icon Cafu has backed the current Rossoneri squad, asserting that every player on the team has the capability to play for either Arsenal or Paris Saint-Germain, even after a disappointing Serie A campaign. Ahead of the Champions League final, the former Brazilian international acknowledged the club’s fifth-place finish fell short of expectations, especially after another season without a significant European run.
“We always desire the best for Milan and always hope they can progress as far as possible,” Cafu stated. “It didn’t happen this time, but we hope they return to the Champions League next season.”
When questioned about recent behind-the-scenes changes, including departures and Zlatan Ibrahimović’s evolving role, Cafu deferred to the club’s management. “It is not for me to determine what is right or wrong for Milan,” he explained. “There is a staff that makes these decisions, but as a Milan supporter, I will always wish to see Milan grow stronger and stronger.”
Reflecting on his own successful tenure at San Siro, Cafu identified his first Champions League triumph as his most cherished moment with the club. However, his most striking assertion came when asked about the current Milan roster’s potential at elite European clubs. Without hesitation, Cafu declared, “All of them! Because they are good players.”
He conceded that missing Champions League qualification was a significant disappointment but argued that it should not diminish the squad’s inherent quality. “It’s a pity they didn’t qualify for the Champions League, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t good players,” Cafu added. “Sometimes, you simply have a bad season. Hopefully, things will improve next year.”
