Similar to last year when American Shawn Thomas missed the Leaders Cup and MSB’s victory due to fatherhood, and coach Guillaume Vizade took paternity leave, this season has seen another player unavailable for a crucial game. During the French Cup final, it became apparent that the Le Mans team effectively played with only eight players. Shannon Bogues had minimal court time (3 minutes 46 seconds), Jonathan Jeanne remained on the bench, and Ugo Doumbia was entirely absent.
Sports director Vincent Loriot explained the situation to Ouest France: “The first two points are truly Guillaume’s decisions, and I am not here to comment on them. Ugo Doumbia became a father on Monday, meaning we must respect the paternity leave policy (3+4 days). His physical presence could have helped us in this tough match. However, we must adhere to labor laws and had to proceed without him, as well as without Swann Penda (injured), who could also have contributed. I am delighted with Wilfried Yeguete’s return. He brings fighting spirit, an exemplary attitude, defense… everywhere, in fact. His return, I hope, bodes well for a strong end to the season.”
