Prime Video has released the second official trailer for the Spider-Noir series, presented in both color and black and white. The trailer introduces Ben Reilly (Nicolas Cage) as a less-than-friendly neighbor who discovers his spider-powers and experiences a delirious existential crisis. Spider-Noir is set to premiere on May 27th on Prime Video. Comparisons to Spider-Man: No Way Home and their differing tones are notable, especially since the film hinted at a potential mutation for Peter Parker, while Spider-Noir offers a more direct reference.
Based on the classic animated series and hints from the trailer, the rumor of “Man-Spider” in No Way Home had gained traction. However, a recent report concerning Marvel Studios’ X-Men film indicates that the producers of Spider-Man: No Way Home may have expressed reservations about including Man-Spider. They were concerned about how a family audience would react to the appearance of an eight-legged monster and might have opted against it.
Voice actor Salvador Delgado, known for dubbing Nicolas Cage’s roles into Latin Spanish, returns to lend his voice to the live-action Spider-Man Noir. Interestingly, in the series, Ben Reilly’s alter ego will be referred to as “The Spider,” not Spider-Man, aligning him with other characters in the noir style, such as The Shadow and The Spirit.
The live-action series is based on the Marvel comic Spider-Man Noir. Cage reprises his fan-favorite role, having previously voiced the character in the 2018 film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. In the comics, Spider-Man Noir is an alternate version of Peter Parker, making the shift to Ben Reilly for the series a surprise. However, fans are well-acquainted with Ben Reilly, who is a clone of Peter Parker created to be his rival but instead becomes a close friend. Ben debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #149, published in 1975, and has since become a beloved variant.
