In January, reports emerged about two Ubisoft projects involving Rayman. One, codenamed ‘Iceman,’ turned out to be ‘Rayman 30th Anniversary Edition,’ celebrating the series’ recent 30th anniversary. The other, codenamed ‘Steambot,’ is rumored to be a remake of Rayman Legends. This latter project apparently goes by the name Rayman Legends Retold, and according to new reports, it would feature a 2.5D approach with additional 3D sections compared to the original 2013 game released for PC, PS3, PS Vita, Xbox 360, and Wii U. Having since been brought to next-generation consoles, the significant question remains: is a remake even necessary for a game that is already virtually flawless?
Rayman Legends Retold would not be a simple remaster, given its new 2.5D and 3D approach. Rayman himself would also receive a slight modern redesign, with more detailing on his shoes and the drawstrings of his sweater now fastened to a button. Rayman and Globox would feature several new outfits, including designs from games like Rayman (1) and Rayman 3, as well as ‘crossovers’ with Astro Bot and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33.
The 3D sections are said to include gameplay reminiscent of Star Fox or, more accurately, Panzer Dragoon, where players would fly on the back of a dragon and shoot enemies, similar to the giant mosquito in the first title. New stories are also expected. On Nintendo Switch 2, Rayman Legends Retold will apparently have a physical release, distributed via a Game-Key Card, which should no longer surprise anyone.
It’s possible the game will be released on current platforms in addition to Switch 2, such as PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC, on October 1, 2026. The announcement is anticipated during the PlayStation State of Play presentation next Tuesday, June 2nd.
