In the world of AAA gaming, where established franchises spanning years—even decades—completely dominate sales and conversations, it’s incredibly satisfying to see a completely original new game also achieve great success. We’re talking about Pragmata, as this brilliant Capcom game managed to sell over a million copies in its first two days on the market, exceeding even the most optimistic expectations.
In this title, players control Hugh, a security officer investigating a communication failure at a lunar base. He discovers that the AI managing the facility has eliminated all its inhabitants. With the help of Diana, an adorable human-shaped robot, Hugh must navigate the base’s dangers to uncover what happened and try to return home. The game combines third-person shooting with ‘mini-puzzles’ that must be completed to attack enemies in a very original and fun way. In our review, we described it as a game that ‘will undoubtedly be considered one of the best of the year.’

According to Capcom’s official English press release, Pragmata achieved the sale of one million copies in such a short time due to its ‘original and highly innovative gameplay that earned it a strong reception from players around the globe.’
While there are some criticisms regarding its narrative, there’s no doubt that it’s a great game deserving of its success. Other players have celebrated Capcom’s resistance to the temptation of selling it for $70, which is becoming the new standard for AAA titles.
We hope other companies will follow Capcom’s example and take risks on making more titles like Pragmata: original and somewhat daring ideas that break away from the notion that investment should only be made in well-known IPs.
Pragmata is an action-adventure game with a science fiction story available for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
