Preview Northwest Regional Scholastic Chess Championship Announced

The exciting online chess initiative continues on May 16th with a brand new event: the Northwest Regional Scholastic Championships!

Following shelter-in-place orders that led to the postponement or outright cancellation of traditional in-person chess tournaments, Washington Chess organizers swiftly transitioned to well-organized online competitions. However, it was observed that some states within the Northwest region struggled to adapt, potentially preventing students from competing in their State Championships this academic year.

This situation sparked an idea: why not introduce a new event? Perhaps a Regional Championship, either as an alternative or a complement to the existing State Championships? And so, the Northwest Regional Scholastic Championship was conceived, set to take place on May 16th via Chess.com.

This innovative initiative aims to provide a vital opportunity for young chess players in the region to compete and showcase their skills.
