Roberto Mancini experienced a day of significant achievement, with his Al Sadd squad securing the Qatar Stars League championship and triumphing over Simone Inzaghi’s Al Hilal in the Asian Champions League. This dual success marked a remarkable period for the former Italy coach.
Having left his role with the Italian national team in August 2023 to manage Saudi Arabia, Mancini later took the helm at Al Sadd in November 2025, returning to club management.
The day proved particularly special for Mancini as it was confirmed that Al Sadd had mathematically secured the Qatar Stars League title earlier that afternoon, following Al Shamal’s 2-0 loss to Qatar SC, meaning they didn’t even need to play to clinch it.
Just hours later, his team faced a formidable challenge in the AFC Asian Champions League Round of 16, competing against Inzaghi’s Al Hilal in Jeddah. The match evolved into an exhilarating 3-3 draw, ultimately necessitating a penalty shootout after extra time. Mancini’s Al Sadd emerged victorious with a 4-2 scoreline on penalties.
Al Sadd demonstrated remarkable resilience throughout the match, coming back from a goal down on three separate occasions to earn their spot in the quarter-finals. They are now set to face Japan’s Vissel Kobe on Thursday.
Despite his current commitments, Mancini has previously been rumored as a potential candidate for a return to the Italian national team coaching position.
