Preview LEGO Skylines, Crossover with Cities: Skylines, Allegedly Leaked by Korean Rating System

A spin-off game themed around LEGO is reportedly in the works for Cities: Skylines, the city-building title developed by Tantalus Media and published by Paradox Interactive. This news comes from a recent leak via the Korean Game Rating and Administration Committee, which listed the game LEGO Skylines prior to any official announcement, as first spotted by Gematsu.

While specific details remain scarce, the prospect of a “LEGO Cities: Skylines” is highly appealing, envisioning a city-building experience with LEGO blocks or within a LEGO City setting. Although Cities: Skylines 2 received a less enthusiastic reception compared to its predecessor, a LEGO crossover could capture the attention that the numerical sequel failed to garner due to various player-cited shortcomings.

It is currently unclear who is developing the game. While Paradox is listed as the publisher, it’s unknown if Tantalus Media, the developer of the original game, or another studio in collaboration with The Lego Group, is handling the project. The original Cities: Skylines and its sequel were created by the Finnish studio Colossal Order, which has since parted ways with Paradox Interactive. The development of Cities: Skylines 2 is now managed by another Finnish studio, Iceflake Studios, responsible for game updates and console versions.

Despite the initial success of Cities: Skylines, which effectively took the crown from SimCity in the urban planning genre, its 2023 sequel faced numerous complaints regarding inconsistent performance and a lack of essential features. It is hoped that these issues will be significantly improved upon the game’s console release. Alternatively, all development efforts might be redirected towards the prematurely revealed LEGO Skylines.
