Jean-Denys Choulet, aged 67, was brought in at the beginning of March to coach Rouen for the final 14 league games, taking over from Sylvain Delorme. With the team now safe from relegation in 15th place, some fans launched a social media petition urging him to remain as coach for the following season. However, the Rouen president has dampened these hopes, as reported by Paris Normandie.
“It was planned for him to help us until the end of the season; we never discussed going further,” the president stated. “I understand the enthusiasm he can generate. He’s someone who ‘breathes’ basketball, who understands the game. It was incredible that a coach like him was available! We were fortunate to find him. He more than accomplished his mission. The players deserve congratulations for their ability to adapt so quickly to a new method, for their resilience. They enjoyed themselves on the court, and we enjoyed watching them play.”
It is hard to imagine the two-time French champion with Roanne and Chalon retiring. His next destination remains to be seen.
