Inter Milan is reportedly monitoring Atalanta winger Marco Palestra as a potential replacement for Denzel Dumfries. Dumfries’s future at the club is uncertain, influenced by his performances at the World Cup and a €25 million release clause that becomes active for a single month in July.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Dumfries has found his best form at a crucial time, making significant contributions during the final stages of the Scudetto race and in the Coppa Italia final victory against Lazio. He had been sidelined with an ankle injury from mid-November to mid-February but has since regained his position as a key player for manager Cristian Chivu.
Despite his importance to the team, Dumfries’s future remains unclear. His contract extends until 2028, and Inter views him as a valuable asset. However, the annual release clause, which has reportedly attracted interest from Liverpool, creates a period of uncertainty each summer. Last year, despite widespread speculation linking him with a move to Barcelona, no concrete offers materialized.
Dumfries is set to represent the Netherlands at the World Cup, where they are drawn in a group with Japan, Sweden, and Tunisia and are considered favorites to advance. While he is away at the tournament, transfer market speculation surrounding him is expected to continue.
Should Dumfries depart, Inter has identified Palestra, currently on loan at Cagliari from Atalanta, as their primary target for the right flank. With Luis Henrique reportedly linked with an exit and Matteo Darmian’s contract expiring in June after a successful six years with the club, Palestra’s dynamism and versatility make him a natural candidate to fill Dumfries’s role.
