Epic Games is currently facing significant backlash due to recent layoffs, increased V-Buck prices, and the announcement of AI-generated character skins. Amidst this controversy, an update for Fortnite OG (Original) is set to launch, bringing back the beloved Chapter 1 Season 8. This update aims to leverage player nostalgia with its original map, classic loot, new skins, and the return of the fan-favorite Avengers: Endgame game mode.
The Season 8 update will be available starting Wednesday, April 1, 2026. Epic Games appears to be hoping that the nostalgia for this map and game mode will overshadow the strong criticism they are receiving.
The Chapter 1 Season 8 map originally debuted on February 28, 2027, reintroducing new points of interest such as The Volcano, Lazy Lagoon, and Sunny Steps in the northeastern region. For those who might not recall, “The Block” also returns, a dedicated area for showcasing player-created content from the previous Creative mode.
Regarding the loot pool, Fortnite OG Season 8 will reintroduce classic items, including:
- Flint-Knock Pistol
- Heavy Assault Rifle
- Impulse Grenade
- Explosive Bow
- Treasure Map
- Poison Dart Trap
- Shadow Bomb
- Infantry Rifle
Additional “novelties” include the Pirate Cannon, which players can find and use across the map, and the fun Baller vehicle, set to arrive later in the season.
For cosmetic items, the Battle Pass (priced at 800 V-Bucks) will feature refreshed versions of the Blackheart, Hybrid, and Luxe skins. A new victory umbrella will also be awarded to players who achieve a Battle Royale win during the season.
What truly has many players excited (and hopefully won’t make them forget the criticisms against Epic Games) is the return of the Avengers: Endgame game mode. This mode, which was Fortnite’s first major collaboration, will be available during Fortnite OG Season 8, specifically on Friday, April 3, 2026.
This unique game mode pits two teams against each other: the Avengers and the Chitauri. The Avengers’ objective is to eliminate the Chitauri 150 times to prevent their respawn, and then defeat Thanos. The Chitauri’s goal is to collect all the Infinity Stones to prevent the Avengers from respawning and eliminate the Avengers.
Fortnite is a free-to-play game with optional in-game microtransactions, available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, iOS and Android mobile devices, and PC via the Epic Games Store.
