Dustin Sleva was a key figure during the early days of Paris Basketball, joining them in 2018 when the team was still in Pro B. After his tenure until January 2023, where he experienced a reduction in playing time, he was loaned to Braunschweig, then went on to play for Murcia and Besiktas, before joining Kaunas for the current season.
In the EuroLeague, Dustin Sleva has solidified his position as one of Žalgiris’s most reliable players, noted for his energy, versatility, and competitive drive on both ends of the court. The American forward maintains an average of 6.9 points, 3.5 rebounds, and an efficiency rating of 6.3 per game.
“At the beginning of the year, I was simply striving to survive and secure my place in the EuroLeague,” he openly admits. “I was doing everything in my power to stay on the court, and once I found my rhythm, I began to truly appreciate Kaunas and recognized that basketball here is a genuine religion. The unwavering support from the fans, through both victories and defeats, is phenomenal. Moreover, the dedication and efforts of the entire administration are at the highest standard I’ve witnessed in my eight-year professional career. I’ve seamlessly integrated here; there are not many places where one is truly valued for their contributions. Here, the administration, coaching staff, and supporters acknowledge my efforts, and that holds immense importance for me.”
The Žalgiris player also highlighted that the negotiation process was remarkably swift.
“Honestly, it didn’t drag on at all,” he stated. “I communicated to my agent that I felt perfectly at home here. I articulated my desires, and Žalgiris met them. From a sporting perspective, this is the most crucial club for me, which made the decision effortless. People might suggest that the city isn’t the most aesthetically pleasing, but it feels like home to me. From the daily encouragement of the fans to the city itself, everything is ideal. For me, it truly is a paradise, a basketball paradise on earth,” D. Sleva shared with palpable enthusiasm.
