Newcastle United Eye Roma Defender Jan Ziółkowski Amid Summer Exit Rumours
Newcastle United has reportedly been monitoring Jan Ziółkowski extensively this season. Sources from Poland indicate the young Roma defender is actively weighing all options for the summer, including a potential departure from the Italian club.
The Premier League club has expressed interest in the Polish international, who is currently completing his inaugural Serie A season with Roma.
Ziółkowski's Future at Roma in Question
According to Polish media outlet Sport.pl, a number of clubs, including Newcastle, along with teams from Italy, France, and the Netherlands, have scouted the 20-year-old throughout the current campaign.
However, Ziółkowski has recently faced challenges securing regular minutes on the pitch. His last start in Serie A was on January 6, during a 2-0 victory against Lecce.
Since that match, the Poland U21 international has been limited to just five substitute appearances in Serie A under Roma coach Gian Piero Gasperini.
His diminished club participation also impacted his involvement in the national team, as he was not called up for Poland's World Cup play-off games in March, where the team ultimately failed to qualify for the competition.
"The national team is extremely important to Janek, as is playing for Roma," a source with direct knowledge of the situation told Sport.pl. "He wanted to contribute to the national team in the play-offs, but his lack of club action made that impossible. Playing for the club is paramount in this scenario."
The source added, "We are exploring every avenue that will ensure Janek gets playing time, and that includes considering a move away."
Ziółkowski is currently under contract with Roma until June 2030.
This season, the Polish centre-back has registered one goal across 19 appearances for Roma.
