Lazio Eyes Free Agent Mauro Icardi After Galatasaray Stint
Lazio has made contact with free agent Mauro Icardi to gauge his interest in a return to Serie A, following the expiration of his contract with Galatasaray. The Roman club is actively searching for a new striker and, operating with a restricted budget, is prioritizing the acquisition of players available on a free transfer.
Icardi Targeted by Lazio
According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, Lazio, also known as the Aquile, has reached out to Icardi's representatives to inquire about his salary expectations. A significant factor in the negotiation is Icardi's preference to join a club competing in the Champions League. However, the prospect of regular playing time could potentially sway his decision.
The Argentine striker boasts an impressive record in Serie A, having scored 121 goals and provided 31 assists in 219 appearances. Despite suffering an anterior cruciate ligament tear in November 2024, he still managed to contribute 16 goals in 47 games for Galatasaray last season. The 33-year-old international is well-acquainted with Italian football, having begun his European journey at Sampdoria in 2011 after developing in the Barcelona youth academy. He later moved to Inter Milan for €13 million in 2013, before a move to Paris Saint-Germain in 2019. Icardi then joined Galatasaray in 2022, with his contract concluding in June 2026.
