Inter Suffer New Lautaro Martinez Injury Blow
Inter Milan have announced that their star striker, Lautaro Martinez, has sustained a muscle strain in the soleus muscle of his left leg. Reports from Italy indicate that this injury will keep the Argentine forward out of action for approximately two weeks.
The Serie A leaders confirmed Martinez's condition in an official statement released on Friday. "Lautaro Martinez underwent clinical and instrumental examinations today at the Humanitas Institute in Rozzano," the statement read. "The tests revealed a mild muscle strain in the soleus muscle of his left leg. The Argentine striker’s condition will be reassessed in the coming days."
According to Sky Sport Italia, the expected recovery period for Martinez is at least two weeks. This setback comes shortly after his return to the pitch on Sunday, where he marked his comeback with two goals in Inter's 5-2 victory against Roma. During his previous absence due to a different muscle issue, Inter's performance saw them win two out of seven matches, with three draws and two losses.
Inter currently leads the Serie A table by a seven-point margin over second-placed Napoli, with seven rounds remaining in the season. Their next fixture is an away game against Cesc Fabregas' Como on Sunday, April 12. Martinez is currently the top scorer in Serie A, having netted 16 goals in 26 appearances.
