Fiorentina secured a slender lead against Rakow in their UEFA Conference League clash, thanks to an Albert Gudmundsson penalty deep in stoppage time. This decisive spot-kick followed an impressive volley from Cher Ndour, which had earlier equalized after Jonatan Braut Brunes gave Rakow the lead.

The Viola's progression to the Round of 16 was anything but straightforward, coming after an intense play-off against Jagiellonia. Despite a dominant 3-0 away win, they suffered an identical home defeat, narrowly advancing 5-4 on aggregate after extra time. This period marked a noticeable dip in form, with the team managing only one draw in their last three competitive matches. Injuries to key players such as Moise Kean, Manor Solomon, Luca Lezzerini, and Tariq Lamptey, along with Marin Pongracic's suspension, further complicated matters.
