Chivu Explains Calhanoglu's Omission from Milan Derby Squad

Inter coach Cristian Chivu has clarified why Hakan Calhanoglu was not featured in Sunday's Milan derby, stating that the player "wasn't feeling well." Despite being listed among the substitutes for the crucial match, which saw Inter suffer a 1-0 defeat against city rivals Milan, Calhanoglu remained on the bench for the entirety of the game.

This recent development follows a period of persistent fitness challenges for the 32-year-old Turkish international. Calhanoglu had previously been sidelined between January and February due to a calf issue, which led him to miss seven matches – five in Serie A and two in the Champions League.

He briefly returned to action on February 14, coming on as a substitute against Juventus for approximately 30 minutes. However, a subsequent muscle injury forced him out of the following three fixtures. Last Tuesday, Calhanoglu started in the Coppa Italia semifinal first leg against Como, but was replaced after 58 minutes.

Throughout the current season, Calhanoglu has participated in 25 appearances across all competitions, contributing one goal and four assists.
