At AnimeJapan 2026, new information was revealed regarding the second season of The Elusive Samurai (Nigejōzu no Wakagimi). Following the success of its initial season in 2024, the production aims to revitalize interest by re-broadcasting the first season before the premiere of the second.

The second season of The Elusive Samurai is set to premiere in July 2026. The announcement was accompanied by a new visual that introduces key characters for the upcoming arc, such as Sasaki Mima.

Studio CloverWorks remains responsible for the production. Yuta Yamazaki returns as director, Yoriko Tomita handles the series composition, and Yasushi Nishiya reprises his role as character designer and chief animation director.

Synopsis of The Elusive Samurai (Nigejōzu no Wakagimi)

Tokiyuki Houjou, an eight-year-old noble, enjoys a carefree life in Kamakura, skillfully avoiding the serious responsibilities of becoming the next shogún. He excels in the art of evasion rather than combat. However, his peaceful existence is shattered when a sudden coup brutally annihilates his clan.

Overwhelmed by guilt as the sole survivor, Tokiyuki contemplates joining his family in death. Yet, his fate takes an abrupt turn when the enigmatic priest Yorishige Suwa thrusts him onto the battlefield, prophesying that Tokiyuki will one day become a great hero. Forced to fight for survival against enemy soldiers, Tokiyuki discovers a new thrill in this life-or-death game of hide-and-seek. With powerful allies promised by Yorishige and a renewed sense of purpose, Tokiyuki vows to avenge his family, not through his fighting prowess, but through his extraordinary talent for fleeing.
