According to Alex Perez of Cosmic Circus, a frequent source of information related to the Marvel universe, when the new X-Men team or reboot arrives in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, it will tell a ‘coming of age’ story with a cast that grows and matures over the years.
There is a rumor that Marvel Studios might introduce the original five X-Men as core members in the ‘Mutant Saga’. However, this would not be an alignment remotely similar to that of X-Men ’97. If true, the members would be Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Angel, Beast, and Professor Charles Xavier. Neither Storm nor Wolverine would be part of the initial lineup for these reasons.
Marvel Studios will return to its usual Saturday night schedule at San Diego Comic-Con 2026. The company will also have a large presence at the San Diego convention center, and according to The Wrap, Marvel Studios will also be present in Anaheim during D23 in August. This is an important year for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, hence their attendance at these conventions. We might learn more details about future X-Men projects there.
Marvel Studios’ last appearance in Hall H was in 2024, when it was revealed that Robert Downey Jr. would play the iconic Marvel villain Victor Von Doom, and that the Russo brothers would direct both Avengers: Doomsday for 2026 – where classic X-Men actors will appear – and Avengers: Secret Wars for 2027 – where Hugh Jackman is rumored to return as Wolverine. In March 2025, the main cast of Doomsday was confirmed, and four ‘trailer teasers’ were presented in December, including the reported return of Chris Evans as Captain America.
Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to premiere on December 18, 2026.
