Preview Why Time Travel is Unnecessary in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream

In life simulation games like Animal Crossing, it’s common to use time travel – changing your console’s date and time – to speed up progression and bypass waiting for specific in-game events. Even if Mr. Resetti frowns upon it, in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream, there’s no benefit to doing so. While the game does sync with your console’s clock, there are no mechanics directly dependent on this real-time progression.

When you time travel in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream by altering the date and time on your Switch or Switch 2, in-game shops will not refresh their stock for approximately 24 hours after you make the system change. Conversely, if you reset the date and time back to the present, the timer restarts, and you’ll have to wait another 24 hours for new commercial offerings to appear.

Furthermore, the Miis’ hunger levels are not affected by these temporal adjustments, meaning you won’t receive extra rewards for feeding them or fulfilling their desires and needs. It’s important to note that this applies to all shops and merchants, including their weekly sales.

So, now you know: time traveling offers virtually no real advantage in Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream. Most in-game occurrences happen at their appointed times, and these wait periods are not excessively long or tedious. The only practical recommendation is to adjust your clock solely when you travel across time zones or if you live in a region that observes daylight saving time.

Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is available on Nintendo Switch and is compatible with Switch 2.
