Ian Garry Can't Evade Islam Makhachev, Claims Dustin Poirier
Dustin Poirier, a seasoned contender in the lightweight division, has weighed in on the potential future matchups for rising star Ian Garry. Poirier suggests that Garry, despite his current trajectory, cannot indefinitely avoid a confrontation with the reigning lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev.
According to Poirier, Garry's current career path appears to be strategically maneuvering him away from a direct challenge to Makhachev. However, Poirier emphasizes that in the highly competitive landscape of MMA, such avoidance tactics are unsustainable.
"He's doing a good job of fighting guys that are just below the top echelon," Poirier commented on Garry's recent performances. "He's doing a good job of winning, but I just don't think he can run from Islam forever. Islam is going to keep winning, and he's going to keep calling people out, and eventually, it's going to be that guy."
Poirier's remarks highlight the perceived pressure on fighters to face champions once they establish themselves as top contenders. He implies that while Garry might be building his record against other opponents, the ultimate test of his capabilities will be a showdown with Makhachev, a challenge he cannot perpetually sidestep.
