Toei Company has officially announced the formation of Toei Games, a dedicated video game distribution brand. The company intends to launch its games primarily for PC via Steam, with a target release year of 2026. Future expansion to consoles such as PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch is also planned. Toei Games’ overarching goal is to “create new intellectual property that captivates the world, starting with video games.”
The initial lineup of titles under the Toei Games banner, which will be revealed at a later date, will not feature existing Toei intellectual properties. Instead, the focus will be on entirely new creations developed by teams both within Japan and internationally.
The inaugural title from Toei Games is scheduled for announcement on April 24th.
The Toei Games logo was designed by Kairosoft, known for titles like Game Dev Story. Kairosoft also produced a pixelated animation of the iconic Toei opening sequence, “Waves on a Stormy Coast,” which has become a symbol of Toei films.
Fumio Yoshimura, President and CEO of Toei Company, stated, “Video games are an extremely global form of entertainment that continues to expand beyond linguistic and national borders. Our group’s medium- to long-term vision, ‘Toei New Wave 2033,’ aims to bring stories created by Toei to the world. We believe our challenge in the video game business, with the global market as our main battlefield, is the realization of that vision.
Toei Games aims to create entirely new intellectual properties from scratch, rather than simply leveraging existing ones. We will utilize the technology and expertise we have developed in video production and apply them to our new video game business, delivering Toei’s unique entertainment experience to players worldwide.”
