Distinguished cricketer Ellyse Perry has etched her name in history by becoming Australia’s all-time leading run-scorer in Women’s Test cricket. This landmark achievement occurred on the second day of the solitary Test match between Australia and India at the WACA Stadium in Perth.

During her impressive knock of 76 runs, Perry not only surpassed the 1000 career runs milestone – making her only the second Australian woman to do so – but also overtook former record-holder Karen Rolton’s tally of 1002 runs. Following this historic moment, she was dismissed by off-spinner Deepti Sharma.

In their first innings, Australia posted a formidable total of 323 runs, securing a significant lead of 125 runs. Annabel Sutherland played a pivotal role, notching her third consecutive century (129 runs) in the multi-day format. Her crucial 128-run partnership with Perry was instrumental in stabilizing the Australian innings. India had been bowled out for 198 in their first innings, despite a resilient 52 from Jemimah Rodrigues.

Beyond her batting heroics, Sutherland also claimed four wickets. Debutant Lucy Hamilton made a strong impression by picking up three wickets, while Dracie Brown secured two and Ashleigh Gardener one. By the close of play on the second day, Australia held a dominant position, with India struggling at 105/6 in their second innings, still trailing by 20 runs. Hamilton concluded a brilliant debut, accumulating six wickets in the match, complemented by two more from Sutherland and another from Brown.

Throughout her illustrious career, Ellyse Perry has represented Australia in 15 Test matches, amassing 1002 runs at an exceptional average of 59.17. Her record includes two centuries, with a personal best of 213* against England. The star all-rounder has also been highly effective with the ball, taking 39 wickets at an excellent average of 21.82, with her best figures of 6/32 also coming against the English side.
