Preview Serie A: Pisa 1-2 Lecce – Banda & Cheddira Secure Crucial Win for Lecce, Pisa Relegated

Lecce achieved a critical 2-1 away win against Pisa. This result officially confirms Pisa’s relegation from Serie A, while significantly boosting Lecce’s chances of remaining in the top flight.

With only two wins and 18 points from 35 matches, Pisa’s fate is now sealed. Lecce, on the other hand, has extended their lead to four points over 18th-placed Cremonese, who still have a match against Lazio to play.

The home team started the game stronger, creating the better early chances. Filip Stojilkovic and Simone Canestrelli were both thwarted by impressive saves from Lecce goalkeeper Wladimiro Falcone. However, Lecce gradually found their rhythm, with Lameck Banda posing a consistent threat on the wing.

Banda opened the scoring shortly after the second half began. Lecce capitalized on a counter-attack, and the Zambian winger calmly controlled the ball before firing a mid-range shot past Adrian Semper to give Lecce a 1-0 lead.

Pisa responded effectively, finding an equalizer in the 56th minute through Mehdi Leris. Leris reacted quickest inside the box to score with a first-time shot into the bottom corner.

With the match evenly poised, Lecce regained the lead just after the hour mark. Santiago Pierotti set up Walid Cheddira, who showed determination to beat the defense to the ball and calmly finish to score what would prove to be the winning goal.

Pisa pressed hard in the closing stages, coming close to scoring through Gabriele Piccinini. However, Lecce’s defense held firm under late pressure, and an offside ruling disallowed what would have been a third goal for Lecce.

The final whistle confirmed a disappointing outcome for Pisa, whose relegation is now mathematically certain. Lecce, meanwhile, has taken a significant step towards securing their Serie A status for another season.
