A potential candidate for the Fenerbahce presidency, Hakan Safi, has revealed that he met with football icon Paolo Maldini to discuss a new role for the latter within the club. Safi expressed optimism about their future collaboration, stating, “We will do beautiful things together.”
As the Turkish club approaches its presidential election, candidates are actively seeking to garner support from fans, especially after their rivals Galatasaray secured the league title. Hakan Safi was recently observed in Italy, where he held discussions at Casa Milan with club directors. Reports also surfaced about a dinner meeting between Safi and former Milan director Maldini, a meeting that Safi has now officially confirmed during a podcast interview conducted on his private jet.
Fenerbahce Candidate Discusses Potential Role with Maldini
“We sat down with Maldini and talked,” Safi confirmed. “He will be our football intelligence globally, our football ambassador. We will achieve great things together. In future transfers, we will leverage Maldini’s expertise.”
Maldini, a legendary figure for both AC Milan and the Italian national team, had previously indicated that he did not envision working with any club other than Milan, where he spent his entire playing career. However, he might be more open to opportunities outside of Serie A. This is further supported by his involvement as a co-owner of Miami FC since 2015, preceding his tenure as technical director at AC Milan from 2019 to 2023.
