The world of The Backrooms is expanding with a new game from acclaimed indie horror developer Puppet Combo, coinciding with the approaching film release. While numerous Backrooms-inspired games have emerged, many suffer from low quality. This upcoming title, however, promises a different experience.
Puppet Combo, known for cult hits like Murder House, Nun Massacre, and The Glass Staircase, has announced their own The Backrooms game for consoles. A trailer for the title has been released.
This isn’t the first time Puppet Combo has ventured into The Backrooms concept; they previously announced a project in 2019 that was later postponed and seemingly canceled.
The game’s official description outlines it as “a horror adventure where we explore liminal space while interacting with strange characters. We will find unexpected things as we enter impossible spaces and see things we shouldn’t have seen.” Players will take on the role of a character named Terrence.
Visually, the game stays true to the classic Backrooms aesthetic. However, Puppet Combo’s signature “VHS” filter, reminiscent of older recordings, imbues the familiar hallways with a unique, unsettling atmosphere, even though it’s not the first game to combine these elements.
The Puppet Combo The Backrooms game is scheduled for release on Thursday, May 14, 2026, a mere two weeks before the film’s theatrical debut. It will be available on PS5, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X|S. Notably, there’s no mention of a PC version at this time.
While some of Puppet Combo’s games are available on Steam and itch.io, the most direct way to access all their PC titles is often through their Patreon. The absence of information regarding a PC release for this specific game is unusual.
